A Sound Journey is a musical experience drawing elements of ritual and sound healing together to create a dynamic, transformative environment. You are invited to connect with your intentions, both for yourself and for the world, and then let them take flight. Layered textures of the voice, cello, and percussion will weave a tapestry of melody and mantra. As we come together as a community, we can help each other to collectively align our lives with our vision for a better world. Each Sound Journey offers a unique variety of music and themes.
Nirmal is passionate about sharing the context of spiritual practices as they apply to our daily lives. He offers a wide array of workshops, ranging from Introduction to Mantra and Sanskrit to Mythic Storytelling, which illuminates the widely-told world epics.
Nirmal is a certified yoga instructor in Hatha Yoga and Pranayama. He has accompanied yoga classes for various instructors for over ten years. He was a regular at Jivamukti NYC's Live Music Fridays. Because poses are held for longer periods of time, he also teaches yin yoga and performs while poses are held. Music helps to keep yogis present to their practice, especially when in challenging poses.

Nirmal regularly performs sound journeys, leads Kirtan, facilitates workshops, and hosts retreats throughout the Northeast. He began studying cello at the age of 9 and as a music major at Brown University, he decided to devote his life to music. After earning his Masters of Music in Composition from San Francisco Conservatory, he took a detour into the world of intentional music, particularly Kirtan— an ecstatic form of call–and–response chanting— and Sound Journeys. These musical practices perfectly matched his desire to bring both spiritual connection and audience immersion into his work.
Nirmal enjoys creating gatherings and retreat experiences in which people can connect with each other through wisdom-based practices and creative expression. He is proud to serve as co-host of the GBTQ Men's Retreats at the Rowe Center in Western Massachusetts and also works with Jon Fischer to offer body positivity retreats for GBTQ men in NYC.
After experiencing the many benefits of yoga and meditation, Nirmal completed programs in both areas. He received his 200-hour yoga teacher certification from the Integral Yoga Institute of New York, and completed a 100-hour meditation teacher training.
